Troubleshooting and Problem-solving in Windows Live Mail 2011

If you are unable to send or receive emails, or you receive an error message in Windows Live Mail 2011, follow these steps

  1. Check that your Internet connection is working properly. If so, do the following:
  2. In « Tools » select « Accounts ».

  3. In the « General » tab, check the e-mail address.
  4. In the « Servers » tab:

    1. Make sure that « POP3 » is selected as the « My incoming mail server is a ».
    2. Make sure that the « Incoming mail server » is « pop.oricom.ca ».
    3. Make sure that the « Outgoing mail server » is « smtp.oricom.ca ».
    4. Check the user name including « @oricom.ca »).
    5. Check the password.
    6. Make sure that the « Require logon using Secure Password Authentication (SPA) » box is not checked.

  5. In the « Advanced » tab, under « Server Port Numbers »:

    1. Make sure that the « Outgoing server (SMTP) » is « 25 ».
    2. Make sure that « This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL) » is not checked.
    3. Make sure that the « Incoming server (POP3) » is « 110 ».
    4. Make sure that « This server requires an encrypted connection (SSL) » is not checked.

  6. Click « OK ».
  7. Check whether this has fixed the problem. If not, contact technical support.
